Printer-Friendly Format

Learn How to Design, Develop, and Deliver A World-Class Leadership Academy at Your School

Thank you for your interest in the Janssen Sports Leadership Center's Lead the Leaders Certification Program. We have received numerous requests about the program from coaches and athletic administrators around the world who want to develop their own "in house" Leadership Academy.

This exclusive, in-depth Lead the Leaders Certification Program will provide a limited number of schools with all the tools, strategies, and resources to design, develop, and deliver their own groundbreaking, highly successful, in house Leadership Academy like the ones we have created at North Carolina, Notre Dame, Illinois, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Yale, Baylor, Winston-Salem State, and Lehigh.

See some of the Leadership Academy websites linked below:

NORTH CAROLINA - http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/ot/carolina-leadership-academy.html

YALE - http://yalebulldogs.cstv.com/athleteservices/kiphuth.html

PITT - http://pittsburghpanthers.cstv.com/genrel/060507aab.html

Through this special and intensive program, we will train a select group of no more than eight qualified individuals on how to create, market, facilitate, and evaluate a comprehensive and cutting edge Leadership Academy at your school/organization.

Lehigh's Julie Sterrett took part in the Lead the Leaders Certification Program this past summer and had this to say about it:

"Thanks so much for the outstanding Lead the Leaders program! I feel great about what I have learned from you and Shelley, and I am appreciative of the time and effort you put into taking me through your Academy curriculum and program logistics in detail, as well as answering all my questions.

I am even more excited now about the implementation of your tried and true effective leadership programming for student-athletes and coaches at Lehigh."

Based on her first-hand experience with the Lead the Leaders Certification Program, Julie has graciously agreed to serve as a reference for any and all questions you might have as you consider applying to the program. After reading through all the detailed information below, you can contact her at jds5@lehigh.edu should you have any questions.

Because we too are highly passionate about our mission of developing the world's next generation of leaders, we want your Academy to succeed and thrive as much as you do.

EXPECT REAL RESULTS

Because we pride ourselves in the impact of our Leadership Academies and want to do the same for you, here are some results we have been able to achieve with our ongoing Academies using the Team Leadership Evaluation:

SCHOOL - Percentage of Student-Athletes Who Improved their Leadership - Avg. Improvement

NORTH CAROLINA - 98.6% of participants improved their leadership skills - Avg. 14.2 points

ILLINOIS - 97.8% of participants improved their leadership skills - Avg. 15.7 points

PITT - 97.3% of participants improved their leadership skills - Avg. 14.3 points

YALE - 95.7% of participants improved their leadership skills - Avg. 10.9 points

WAKE FOREST - 94.9% of participants improved their leadership skills - Avg. 13.6 points

Further, not only do student-athletes overwhelmingly (98%) recommend the Leadership Academy to their peers, but coaches view the Academy as a distinct and decisive recruiting advantage as well. The Academies have also been well-received by parents and administrators across campus. Prospective employers such as McKinsey Consulting, Bain and Company, and Teach for America also covet and target our Leadership Academy graduates.

As you can see, through the Lead the Leaders Certification Program, you can develop your own proven in house Leadership Academy that will have a significant impact on your athletic department in a multitude of ways.

A TWO-WAY ONGOING COMMITMENT FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS

We are requiring a minimum three-year commitment for the Lead the Leaders Certification Program to implement your school's Leadership Academy for two primary reasons:

1. We want to ensure your and your school's full commitment to the process of developing world-class leaders. We fully commit to provide you with all the tools, insights, resources, and strategies to develop a successful Leadership Academy and ask that you fully commit to us as well. This is not something to dabble in for a year and forget - but something that needs the long-term support and involvement of all involved.

2. Based on our experience with other schools, we are confident you will see real results in the first year of implementation - but even greater results in subsequent years. (Having seen several Academies evolve and expand through the years, with the right guidance and support, they get stronger and better with time as they become an important part of your school's culture and success.)

Thus, we encourage you to have the strong support of the coaches and administrators at your school before moving forward.

Here's what the initial three-year commitment looks like:

YEAR 1

- 4 Day Summer Lead the Leaders Training*

This intensive training will provide you with all the details of developing and delivering your own Leadership Academy. Jeff will work closely with you to put the proper foundation in place, cover all the modules in-depth, and answer any and all questions you might have about designing and developing your program.

- Consulting Retainer

Jeff Janssen and his staff will be available to you throughout the year to answer any questions and troubleshoot any issues you might have. We'll also provide you with periodic updates on the best practices used by other Academies.

- Site License to Use Material**

We will also provide you with all the resources, powerpoints, handouts, etc. to use exclusively with your school/organization.

- 50 Team Captain's Leadership Manuals

The program includes a minimum of 50 copies of The Team Captain's Leadership Manual. (If necessary, additional books can be purchased at the discounted rate of $19.95 per copy.)

- 50 TeamCaptainsNetwork.com Memberships

The program includes a minimum of 50 memberships to the TeamCaptainsNetwork.com online leadership development website. (If necessary, additional memberships can be purchased at the discounted rate of $29.90 per membership.)

- 50 ChampionshipCoachesNetwork.com Memberships

The program also includes leadership training and support for your coaches through the ChampionshipCoachesNetwork.com website.

*Once we know who is accepted into the program, all efforts will be made to find mutually convenient summer training dates (June or July) that work for all the participants. The Lead the Leaders training will be held in Chapel Hill and nearby Cary, North Carolina.

**Site License: Upon acceptance to the program, receipt of the fee, and successful completion of the training, your school will be granted a limited and restricted site license to conduct the programming exclusively at your school/organization. The site license will allow you to use all the information and copyrighted materials with participants at your school. However, it will not allow you to market or conduct any leadership programs to any schools, groups, teams, organizations, etc. outside of your specific school/organization.

YEAR 2 and YEAR 3

- Site License to Use Material

- 50 Team Captain's Leadership Manuals

- 50 TeamCaptainsNetwork.com

- 50 ChampionshipCoachesNetwork.com

- Year Long Consulting Retainer

- Summer Retreat to share Best Practices and New Information - We will also have a two-day Summer Leadership Retreat so that you can meet with other facilitators to share ideas, insights, and best practices.

YEAR 4 AND BEYOND

Obviously we hope that you are so thrilled with your Leadership Academy and the results it is achieving that you will want to continue your partnership with us for many years to come! You will be provided with the same resources and support as long as you are involved in the program.

SELECTION PROCESS

To ensure that these new Leadership Academies have the solid foundation and support they need to be successful, we are intentionally being highly selective in this process and are accepting no more than eight qualified applicants.

We want to make sure that this program is the right fit for everyone involved. Thus, we ask that you and your school/organization apply for this unique opportunity using the application linked below.

APPLICATION FORM LINKED BELOW:

http://www.teamcaptainsnetwork.com/public/294.cfm

What makes a strong Leadership Academy Leader?

Ideal Leadership Academy Leaders are people who:

- are highly passionate about developing the world's next generation of leaders

- have a great deal of experience in the sports world as an athlete, coach, and/or athletic administrator

- have strong speaking, communication, listening, and facilitation skills

- relate well and can connect with student-athletes and coaches

- have the ability to inspire, educate, and challenge others with their teaching ability

- have a solid background in leadership development, coaching, sports psychology, and/or sports administration

Please note that we have some flexibility in these qualifications, however the Lead the Leaders Certification Program is not for everyone. To be considered, you will need to fill out the application form and send in the complete information that is requested. Completion of this application does not guarantee enrollment but is used to identify qualified candidates.

APPLICATION FORM LINKED BELOW:

http://www.teamcaptainsnetwork.com/public/294.cfm

Once we receive your application, we'll set a time for a phone consultation to discuss the program and to see if it is a good fit for you and your school/organization at this time.

As a reminder, we will only accept the first eight schools/organizations into the Lead the Leaders Certification Program who meet our qualifications and pay the fee.

INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE GENERATIONS OF LEADERS

How much are you willing to invest in developing your school's next generation of leaders?

As a frame of reference, our comprehensive Leadership Academies, facilitated by one of our highly trained and experienced staff members, range from a total investment of $40,000-$80,000 per year. Fortunately, these schools will tell you their Leadership Academy has been worth every penny and is why they have renewed year after year.

However, we understand that for many schools, this kind of financial investment seems almost impossible (unless you are fortunate enough to secure a generous donor as we recommend exploring below). It's one of the primary reasons why we have created the Lead the Leaders Certification Program option.

We also realize that some schools are fortunate to have some highly talented and capable staff members "in house" who would be able to successfully facilitate a Leadership Academy - they just need the proper and proven training, structure, tools, and support materials to do so.

Thus, we are excited to offer you this program because you can receive all the training, tools, resources, and support described above to create and conduct own in house Leadership Academy for THREE YEARS for a cost that is significantly less than many schools invest for a single year.

Your Investment in Creating Your Own In-House Leadership Academy

We are offering a 15% discount for those who pay the full fee for the three years all upfront. With this option, your yearly average investment could be only $12,750 per year to have your own in house Leadership Academy - significantly lower than the $40,000-$80,000 per year that many schools are now investing. Thus, your total upfront three-year investment for the Lead the Leaders Certification Program could be as low $38,237.

Realizing that this is a serious investment upfront, we are also offering a distributed payment plan that might make it easier for some schools. With our intensive training on the front end for the first year, the payment plan would be as follows:

Year 1 = $20,995, Year 2 = $11,995, Year 3 = $11,995 - TOTAL = $44,985 over three years

After three years and providing that the Academy is going well on all fronts, additional years can certainly be added for $11,995 per year, which includes the same items as outlined above in years two and three. Our licensing and certification fees will remain consistent with when you start the program and will not increase.

To be accepted into the Lead the Leaders Certification Program, you would need to pass our application process and be one of the first eight schools to put in a 50% down payment for your first year by May 1, 2009, with the balance of the payment to be paid by December 31, 2009 - or pay the entire discounted amount of $38,237 upfront. (We will maintain a waiting list in case there are any cancellations.)

ONLY ONE DONOR AWAY FROM HAVING YOUR OWN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

While the investment in the Lead the Leaders Certification Program may seem steep initially, as most of our Leadership Academy schools have already discovered, you are simply one interested donor away from funding a state of the art Leadership Academy at your school.

The majority of schools we work with have donors who support the Leadership Academies in whole or part. Some donors have generously given over a half a million dollars to support long-term Leadership Academies because they are passionate about developing leaders and know our Leadership Academy process has real and lasting impact.

So before you think there is no way our school could ever afford this - we do encourage you to explore your options with some potential donors. Many prospective donors want to leave a legacy of leadership - and take immense pride in knowing that they are investing in your school's next generation of leaders whose leadership and good works will make a huge difference for decades and generations to come.

Again, thanks for your interest in partnering with the Janssen Sports Leadership Center to develop your own in house, world-class Leadership Academy. We are excited about this new program and look forward to the possibility of working closely with you to develop your school's next generation of leaders!

Jeff Janssen, Founder and President

Janssen Sports Leadership Center

P.S. We've included a FAQs section below. Please email us at jeff@jeffjanssen.com any specific questions you might have after reading through all the materials. Again, Lehigh's Julie Sterrett participated in the program last year and is willing to share her experience with it and how it helped her launch the Lehigh Leadership Academy this fall. You can contact her at jds5@lehigh.edu

FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the certification process work?

To maintain the quality of our services and brand, participants will be provisionally certified after completing the 4-day training. At the conclusion of the first year, we require comprehensive feedback about the effectiveness of the programming and facilitator. The facilitator will become fully certified if and when the program achieves and sustains the impact we expect.

Measurements used to judge and verify the effectiveness of the programming and facilitator include but are not limited to: at least 90% of participants improving their leadership scores as measured by the Team Leadership Evaluation, retrospective pre/post average improvement scores of at least 10%, and at least 90% of participants recommending the programming to future participants.

Can I send additional staff members from our school/organization to be trained and certified?

You can send additional members provided that we have space available. Additional staff members can be sent and provisionally certified for an additional $4500 per person. Be aware that the license is a specific site license for the school/organization, not per individual. Thus, if these individuals leave your school/organization, you would need to send us another person to be certified at the cost of $4500.

Are there any other potential costs associated with the program?

That's all up to you. We'll provide you with all the resources to meet the needs of up to 50 members in your program. Should your numbers be higher, we would encourage you to add on copies of The Team Captain's Leadership Manual and memberships to the TeamCaptainsNetwork.com

Starting in your second year and beyond, you might wish to add on our online 360 Team Leadership Evaluation. (see link below)

http://www.teamcaptainsnetwork.com/public/283.cfm

This online evaluation system provides your participants with a quick and easy way to receive 360-degree feedback from their teammates and coaches. You would be able to use an unlimited number of evaluations with your participants on an annual basis for $2500 per year. We would also provide you with the training to use the online system as well as how to process and discuss it with your student-athletes.

Additional optional expenses may include the following: t-shirts for participants, snacks/food for meetings, binders to organize handouts, brochures about the Academy, year-end recognition dinner/banquet, Leader of Distinction awards, participation awards. Again, all these items are optional. However, you might wish to request some additional funding from your administration/donors if you would like to have these items as part of your Academy.

If you have any other questions, please send them to us at jeff@jeffjanssen.com
